I Tried Sugaring For The First Time With This Vegan Hair Removal Kit

Sugaring sounds so cute, definitely cuter than waxing or shaving! I didn't know this type of hair removal existed until I received the opportunity to try Sugar Bella's Vegan Sugar Paste Hair Remover.
I’ve never really needed to look into other methods of hair removal because shaving has never been a problem for me, but I am always curious about what other methods are out there. I’ve always loved the idea of waxing because you don’t have to worry about your hair growing back in right away, but I really haven’t had the best experiences getting my eyebrows waxed… Let’s just say, I can’t even imagine waxing anything else ever. I have tried threading my eyebrows and it was a pretty good experience! I’m not generally a very hairy person, and my eye brows do not grow in fast, thick, or unruly, so plucking them every now and then is the most I really need to do. When it comes to other areas, I have tried hair removal gels and lotions when I was younger but I can’t recall anything working for me as good as shaving. I also can’t even imagine what awful ingredients I was putting on my skin in those hair removal products.
When I saw that Sugar Bella made an all-natural sugar paste remover, I knew it was something I wanted to try! It wasn’t waxing, it was sugaring! I was totally interested but also nervous to test it out, mostly worried I wouldn’t have enough hair in one spot for it to grasp on to. Luckily, around time I found Sugar Bella on Instagram they were looking for some people to try out the product and I was able to receive this sugar paste complimentary for testing purposes. While waiting for the product to arrive I watched their instagram videos and reviewed their super helpful how-to page.
A Little bit about Sugaring:
From the Sugar Bella website, I learned that “sugaring, sugar waxing or Persian waxing is a method of hair removal that has been in use since 1900 BC. Sugar waxing is a simple and effective way to remove hair with less pain and longer lasting results.” I did a lot of research and the sugaring method seems to be popular method for all areas of the body, except for the eyebrows, where threading seems to be the go-to option. With sugaring, your hair is supposed to grow back thinner, finer, and softer. When compared to waxing, it is said to be much more gentle, less irritating, and that there is less breakage because the paste adheres to the hair better than wax.
Benefits at a glance (from the Sugar Bella website):

First impressions:
If you follow me on instagram, you may have caught my story where it took my husband and I several attempts to get this paste open... ENJOY THESE TWO VIDEOS 😂:
After seeing and using the product, I now understand why It was so hard to open and why the paste was stuck to the lid. As you heard my husband say in the video, the paste is thick! When Sugar Bella saw my story they reached out to me to say sorry that the paste had stuck to the lid and they took note of it. Since they are a newer brand I am sure they will find a resolution to this. If not, they might have to send a pair of pliers with their kits! (totally just kidding!) Overall, their packaging and the entire kit was cute and well put together. The kit includes 100g of the sugar paste, one wooden spatula, and fifteen non-woven 6.8cm x 19.8 cm strips. Any prepping powder or baby powder will need to be purchased separately. They also include two little fliers with information about the paste and how to use it.
My experience:
Using this product was actually pretty simple once I found my way with getting it onto the spatula and Sugar Bella’s how-to page definitely pulled through. I wanted to first test it on a small area of my arm where I grew the hair out specifically to try this. I followed the step by step guide and dusted a small amount of baby powder on my arm. It says on their how-to page that if you’re worried about the pain to try spreading the paste onto the strip first, so this is exactly what I did! I placed the strip over my arm and rubbed it several times. It felt like it adhered REALLY well so I called my husband into the room to pull it off… I couldn’t! I was nervous but surprised that it actually did not hurt! It removed quite easily but it did not remove as much hair as I hoped. I tried a second application, placing the paste directly on my skin and using the strip onto, but had the same results. I just couldn’t get it to pull my fine arm hairs out! What I did notice and like is that the paste never stuck to my skin or pulled on my skin, it only pulled the hairs and for the hairs it did grab, it seemed to pull them from the root.
I decided to try it on a small area on my husbands arm (I still can’t believe he let me) and I think because his hair is thicker and longer we had much better results! With him, I tried placing the paste directly to his arm first and then applied the strip. It removed so much more hair for him but still not all of it. He said it wasn’t painful but he didn’t let me try a second time! We both rinsed the areas with warm water, there wasn’t much sugar paste left over to remove which was nice.
I love the idea of sugaring and do think this is a great, natural alternative to waxing but I think it requires times and patience. I also think my experience would be different if I had this done professionally or had I been more familiar with this method or with waxing. It may take several sugaring sessions before the hair is completely removed so I am willing to try it out some more to see how it works for me. I was glad to see it removed some hairs but I honestly feel like my arm hair is too fine! I am definitely curious to see how it works in other areas too but am still deciding if I’m willing to do it myself. I’m glad to say that even with my sensitive skin, I had no irritation whatsoever. I would also like to note that this product did not have any strong smell, just a touch of sugar.
Product Tips:
Sugaring should be done at 1/8" to catch the hair in the beginning stages of growth
Exfoliate the day before sugaring
Do not work out immediately after sugaring
Follow sugaring session, apply coconut oil to calm and refresh the skin
Sugar at least 72 hours before swimsuit-time
Please read labels, warnings, and directions before use.
Do not apply to broken, irritated or sunburnt skin.
Avoid use where moles, warts or varicose veins are present.
If you should experience prolonged irritation or discomfort using this product, discontinue use and consult a licensed health care practitioner.
Keep out of reach of children.
If you are using the sugar paste in a colder environment; open the lid of the container, and microwave the paste for 5-8 seconds until it gets warm.
The paste works most effectively at 38-40 degree celsius, a temperature which does not burn your skin.
Do not heat over 40 degree celsius.
Test before applying onto your skin after microwaved.
After each use, tightly close lid on jar and store uptight in a cool, dark place.
Final thoughts:
I can absolutely see why sugaring is a popular method of choice, but I can also understand why a person may not choose this method over another. Now that I have tried sugaring I will probably never attempt at home waxing. I think you may be less likely to have a reaction to the product, get burned, or accidentally take some skin off with sugaring! I do think that shaving is easier for me personally however, since this method requires more a commitment in order to see results, I may try it more often. I think the $55 investment for the Sugar Bella kit is definitely worth it if you’re looking to try a new method of hair removal that is all natural! Thank you so much for reading.
